LMX isn't a DMX slider app with extras bolted on. It implements the full pro-console stack — programmer, tracked cue lists, executors, effects, palettes, and deterministic layer precedence — and makes every part of it inspectable.

Programming

Two ways in. One source of truth.

LMX pairs a full graphical console — patch tables, programmer, cue and fixture inspectors, an effect editor, fader banks — with a real command line. Not a scripting afterthought: a console-style syntax with autocomplete, usage hints, and did-you-mean suggestions on every command.

Select with ranges and groups (FIXTURE 1 THRU 8, GROUP 2 + 3), fan values across a selection, work in the programmer, and store when it looks right. BLIND mode lets you edit without touching the stage; HIGHLIGHT and SOLO help you find the fixture you mean.

Patch & fixtures

Patch a rig in minutes, not an afternoon.

Start from 50+ bundled fixture profiles or import GDTF files straight from manufacturers. The patch wizard, clone with auto-addressing (CLONE 1 4 AT NEXT), bulk renumbering and readdressing, and fixture exchange handle the boring parts; PATCH REPORT gives you the full address table with overlap warnings.

The built-in fixture editor covers custom and exotic gear — including multicell and pixel fixtures, wheel slots, and mode variants — with schema validation so a bad profile never reaches your show.

Cues & tracking

Cue stacks that work like a real desk.

Cues store deltas and values track forward until a later cue restates them — so editing cue 1 ripples through the ballad exactly the way you expect, and BLOCK flags stop tracking where you want a hard restate. Decimal numbering (STORE CUE 12.5) inserts cues without renumbering the stack.

Cue parts split one cue into sections with independent fade, delay, and release timing. UPDATE CUE merges or replaces, edits labels and timing, and works per part. Premove pre-positions dark fixtures ahead of their move cue — configurable lookahead and fade, with per-part opt-out.

Playback & executors

Run it your way: theatre stack or busked club set.

Fire tracked cue lists with GO / STOP / GO PREV, or load anything — cues, cue lists, presets, palettes, single capabilities, effects — onto faders and mix the show by hand. Each fader has a merge mode (blend, HTP, or intensity), a flash button, and an optional OVERRIDE flag that beats even the programmer (working lights while you program, anyone?).

Fader pages, grand and group masters, emergency blackout, and deterministic layer precedence keep ownership unambiguous: premove < cues < faders < programmer < override faders < global masters. You always know who wins, and SHOW LAYERS proves it.

Effects engine

Effects that update live and lock to the beat.

Build waveform effects (sine, sawtooth, square, pulse, random and more) on any attribute — pan, tilt, intensity, colour, zoom, iris, gobo — or step chases with colours, gobos, and per-step intensities. Spread, wings, blocks, and phase tools shape the effect across the rig.

Templates are reusable and fixture-agnostic: apply one to the programmer, record it into cues and presets, or ride it on a fader. Edit a template and every running instance updates live without restarting or breaking phase. Link applications to shared master frequencies and retempo the entire show with one command: UPDATE FREQUENCY 1 BPM 128.

Palettes & presets

Build looks once. Reuse them everywhere.

Type-scoped palettes — intensity, colour, gobo, beam — apply to any selection, with automatic RGB↔CMY conversion so one “Deep Red” works across your whole rig. Presets capture complete multi-attribute looks per fixture or group, recallable in full or blended in at any amount.

Both are live references: cues and presets that point at a palette follow its edits. Retint the whole show by updating one palette — no re-storing, no hunting through cues.

XYZ & visualisation

Point lights at places, not numbers.

Calibrate each mover against four known stage points and LMX solves its true hanging position and orientation. From then on, aim at named targets — “Vocal spot”, “Drum kit” — instead of raw pan/tilt. Capture live target references into cues: move the target or re-rig the fixture, and every cue re-solves automatically.

The built-in hardware-accelerated 3D visualiser renders beams, colour, gobos, and haze so you can pre-program the show at your desk and walk into the venue with a finished stack.

Output & show control

Speaks every protocol your rig does.

Art-Net, sACN (E1.31) with per-universe priority and routing, and FT232R-based USB-DMX interfaces — all refreshing at a solid 44 fps with per-protocol health reporting: live send rate, error counts, and instant surfacing of USB disconnects.

Map MIDI controllers to faders and encoders with feedback, record and replay macros, and drive the desk from the hardware you already mix on.

Diagnostics & reliability

When something looks wrong, know why in seconds.

WHY FIXTURE (or INSPECT FIXTURE) traces any attribute to its owner — which cue, fader, effect, or programmer value is driving it, through every layer, down to the DMX bytes on the wire. SHOW LAYERS lists everything currently contributing to output.

When you need out fast: PANIC deterministically stops cue lists, releases faders, kills effects, and clears the programmer. Undo, emergency blackout, autosave, backup-on-overwrite, and showfile recovery back you up. The whole engine is regression-tested with a deterministic simulation harness and benchmarked to 1,000 fixtures.
