Amount - the percentage at which a palette, preset or effect is applied. An amount below 100% blends the stored value onto whatever is already there rather than replacing it. Palettes

Attribute / Capability - one thing a fixture can do: intensity, pan, zoom, gobo, strobe. The names come from the fixture profile, and the name is the command (INTENSITY 100). The programmer

Blind - a programmer state where nothing you do reaches the output, so you can build the next look during the current one. The programmer

Block (cue flag) - a cue that stops values tracking through it, so what it sets is what the stage does regardless of what came before. Tracking

Blocks (fanning) - buddying adjacent fixtures so each group of n shares one value in a fan or an effect. Fanning and spread

Capture - binding a fixture to a target so its pan and tilt keep tracking that point. Compare Aim, which points once and lets go.

Cell - see Head.

Chase - an effect that steps through a list of colours, gobos or intensities rather than following a waveform. Effects (SFX)

Cue - a stored state you can fire. May have several parts, each with its own timing. Cues

Cue list - an ordered sequence of cues with a pointer into it. GO moves the pointer. Cue lists and GO

Executor - the thing a fader holds when you LOAD something onto it. Faders and pages

Fan - spreading one value across a selection so the ends differ from the middle. Fanning and spread

Frequency master - a shared clock several effects can ride, so they stay locked together and change speed as one. Frequency masters

Grand master - the fader that scales every intensity in the output. Output and master controls

Group - a saved fixture selection. In reference mode a value stored against a group follows its membership. Groups

Head - one addressable cell of a multi-cell fixture, written <fixture>.<head>. Selecting fixtures

Highlight / Lowlight / Solo - output overrides that make the current selection obvious on stage. Output and master controls

HTP - highest takes precedence: where two sources set an intensity, the brighter wins. LTP - latest takes precedence: the most recent instruction wins. Intensity can be either; everything else is LTP. The programmer

Palette - a stored attribute value - a colour, a gobo, a beam shape - applied by name. Palettes

Part (cue part) - one timed slice of a cue. Every part’s delay is measured from the moment the cue fires; parts never wait for each other. Cues

Premove - moving a dark fixture into position before the cue that brings it up, so the audience never sees it travel. Premove

Preset - a stored look across fixtures and groups, recallable at any level. Presets

Programmer - the scratch layer you build looks in. It sits on top of everything else. The programmer

Profile - a fixture definition: its modes, channels, capabilities and wheel slots. Fixture Editor

SFX - an effect: a waveform or a chase applied to one or more attributes. Effects (SFX)

Spread - the total width of a fan across the selection, or an effect’s phase offset between fixtures. Fanning and spread

Target - a point in the room, in metres, that fixtures can be aimed at or bound to. Targets and aiming

Tracking - values staying on after the cue that set them, until a later cue changes them. Tracking

Universe - one 512-channel DMX address space. Fixtures are addressed <universe>/<channel>. DMX output

Wings - splitting a selection into mirrored sections so a fan or an effect runs outward from the middle. Fanning and spread
